High School Principal

Desired Start Date: July 1, 2023

Supervisor: Academy Superintendent

Required Credentials: Master of Education: Educational Leadership or the equivalent

Experience Required: 5+ years of experience teaching a secondary subject

Salary: TBD based on experience and credentials

Scope of Duties:  The High School Principal is the primary academic leader of faculty, staff, and students assigned to seventh (7th) through twelfth (12th) grades. The principal serves as a member of the Administrative Leadership team with the potential for delegated operational duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

 

Primary Duties:

  • Supervise the daily classroom operations of the division.
  • Supervise the creation of effective lessons that engage and enhance student learning.
  • Supervise the timeliness of posting lesson plans and grades.
  • Supervise the quality of feedback provided for graded assignments.
  • Supervise the execution of annual events that showcase the academic division programs.
  • Conduct routine evaluations of classroom effectiveness.
  • Conduct disciplinary meetings for students.
  • Conduct faculty training.
  • Administrate the daily operations of the academic division in conjunction with the other division.
  • Collaborate with other academic leaders to deconflict shared resources and formulate educational initiatives.
  • Conduct systems analysis and make policy recommendations that enhance the philosophies, mission, and desired spiritual and academic outcomes of the Academy.
  • Make both quantitative and qualitative decisions.
  • Work closely with the Admissions Director, Registrar, and Finance department when a new student is accepted into the Academy.

 

Essential Qualities

  • Must be an active disciple of Christ capable of articulating their faith in terms of salvation and present service to a local church.
  • Must be willing to be an active member of Berean Baptist Church (BBC), who faithfully tithes and utilizes their time and talents to further the Kingdom of Christ within the congregational ministries of BBC.
  • Must hold the reputation of being an exemplary role model in aspects of biblical sexuality, parenting (if children are in the home), marriage (if married), and relationships.
  • Must be above reproach with members of the opposite gender.
  • Must possess the qualities of the Academy’s core values
  • Must possess an aptitude for social and emotional awareness
  • Must possess a desire for excellence balanced with a desire to coach and mentor to excellence
  • Must be firm in policy enforcement and tempered by graciousness (Candor and Tact)
  • Must be able to contribute one or more of the many factors in strategic planning (vision, resource utilization best practices, insight into human behavior, building consensus, etc…)
  • Must be humble enough to be coachable and desire to continue learning no matter the length of experience

Preferred Candidates:

  • Possess formal training in Curriculum and Instruction through either degree or certification.
  • Possess experience that demonstrates 5+ years of tenure at previous places of employment.
  • Possess an Education Specialist or Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership or Curriculum and Instruction (when combined with a master’s degree in educational leadership).
  • Possess either State Licensure reciprocal with North Carolina or Certification with the Association of Christian Schools International.
  • Possess postgraduate certifications in leadership or data-driven inquiry and analysis.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in your academic discipline (master’s preferred)
  • Degree must be from an accredited college or university that enables the holder to pursue, gain, and maintain the Professional-Level certification from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the North Carolina Christian School Association
  • Must be a member of Berean Baptist Church
  • Must be in complete agreement with the church covenant and articles of faith
  • Must remain actively involved in outreach and a church ministry
  • Must adhere to the policies outlined in the employee handbook and employee expectations
  • Must have excellent communication skills, especially with fellow staff and parents
  • Must take responsibility, meet deadlines, and make progress without direct supervision
  • Must be proficient in MS Office, familiar with a learning management system (Renweb preferred) and Grammarly
  • Must be able to stand for one hour or more without sitting, walk up to 1/4 to 1/2-mile at a time, climb stairs repeatedly throughout the day, raise arms overhead for an extended period, lift 30 pounds (ca. 14 kg), and be in overall good physical and mental condition

Responsibilities

  • All faculty and staff are required to create an environment where students are encouraged to use their talents within the local ministry by exemplifying the Christian lifestyle, consistent with the Academy’s Statement of Faith, and to minister to students through prayer and guidance while performing their duties.
  • Inventory and maintain accountability of departmental property
  • Monitor student progress, discipline, and grades and report any issues as soon as possible
  • Communicate weekly with parents concerning classroom learning activities and other school-related events via email
  • Support the athletic and fine arts programs
  • Seek membership in a professional learning community that corresponds with your degree
  • Increase student conceptual understanding
  • Research and recommend changes to the curriculum to ensure the academy has the best Christian materials for your academic discipline
  • Demonstrate proficiency in educational technology equipment

Expectations

  • Abstain from the use of any form of tobacco, alcohol, or any illegal drug
  • Refrain from fighting and insubordinate conduct
  • Refrain from stealing or misappropriating church property or resources
  • Refrain from attending any location that would be morally questionable, such as nightclubs and other similar establishments
  • Be very careful about the content in the movies and television they watch, the music they listen to, and the websites they view
  • Live in such a manner that others can see that Jesus is their Lord
  • Tithe from their gross income to the church
  • Pay their bills on time and manage their finances in such a way as to bring honor to Christ
  • Work diligently to grow in their knowledge of the Word of God
  • Be conscious of opportunities to witness, share the gospel, and invite others to church
  • Participate in the Men’s or Women’s ministry depending on gender
  • Use the ESV Bible in the classroom and worship services
  • Be faithful to all worship services and other special events
